5 December 2013. On this day, I completed writing a 6-page photo essay to be shared with colleagues and friends. It was an article that shared how locals are unburdening the darkest past, and how South Africa today is beautiful and spectacular.
The South African Presidency announced the death of its Statesman, Nelson Mandela, the same day. I am glad I have learned the surface, if not all, of the fight against apartheid when I visited South Africa in May 2013. I might never fully understand and feel the true pain and plight of such brutal institutions, but I know today that I appreciate social and racial harmony at a level I never knew I could.
For a great Statesman he was, I give my salute.
