Indonesia, May 2013. At 2,700 meters, we are being briefed by our guide of the plan for the next day. We would then wake at 3am and begin our ascent to the summit at 3,726 meters. Mount Rinjani is the second highest mountain in Indonesia, and it’s summit is known for its treacherous and exhausting gravel. For every two steps up, you slide one step down.
